how we've helped

Grant

The problem

Grant suffered ill health during resit exam period. He had had medical treatment in home country but had not realised could report ECs using translated medical evidence.

What we did

We advised him to do an academic appeal and obtain translated evidence.

What happened

His appeal was upheld by the FACP and he will be allowed to re-sit his failed exams

Hayley

The problem

Hayley was withdrawn from her studies after failing an exam. She had not disclosed that her mother had lost her job, and so Hayley returned to her home country to work to support family.

What we did

We advised to focus her appeal on impact on to her studies rather than financial hardship.

What happened

Hayley was given an opportunity to return to study, resitting exams successfully during the next exam period.

Cat

The problem

Cat was a nursing student who was withdrawn after second fail of written exam. Whilst she had told the university about a bereavement shortly before her exam it wasn't taken into account when she failed.

What we did

She appealed, and with our assistance, explained that her family member had been her primary carer for much of her childhood.

What happened

Her appeal was upheld and she will have a further attempt at her written exam.

Micheal

The problem

Micheal came to us because their Landlord was retaining the full deposit for the whole house, because one student had left without paying their share of the rent.

What we did

We advised that the Landlord was entitled to do this, but were able to negotiate with the Landlord.

What happened

The Landlord released part of the deposit to the remaining students while he took the  absent student to court for the unpaid rent. The other students will get the rest of their deposits back if this is successful
