10 Reasons to join a club or society

Hello and welcome to UEA - or if you’re returning to study, welcome back!

As your Activities and Opportunities officer at uea(su), my job involves overseeing the parts of the university experience outside your academic life – which are often just as enriching as your studies.

We’ve got over 200 societies and 58 sports clubs to choose from at uea(su), so there’s something for everyone.

It's easy to dismiss societies and clubs - they take up too much extra time and effort that could be better used in studying and working, right? Wrong!

There are plenty of reasons why you should join a society or sports club - but here are just ten:

1. There’s no better time to join - The start of a new academic year is the perfect time to try something new, re-discover an old hobby or develop a skill you already have. Most new members will join at the start of term, so if you’re worried about being the new person, there will probably be other people in the same situation!

2. Socialising – Joining a society is a great way to meet like-minded people. Many societies are interest-based and there’s a huge range to choose from. Whatever you’re into there’s most likely a society for you. If not – why not find out how to start your own?
