club and soc committees elected: what's next?

It's a busy part of the year for our clubs and societies - as well as exams and deadlines, it's time for this year's club and society leaders pass on the batton to the next generation of committee members. Last week, committee election results were sent out, so here's some more details on what happens next...

committee training sessions

This year, the SU and UEA Sport are working closer together to deliver committee training, meaning for most positions, sports club committee training will be in the sports park and society committee training will be in the SU:

Club committee training: president & secretary (together), treasurer, health & safety, captains, social secretary, disability confidence, publicity & marketing, first aid - these will all take place in the sportspark and emails have been sent out to committee members with more details

Society committee training: president, secretary, treasurer, social secretary, health and safety - these will all take place in the SU and you can book onto a training session here.

BOTH club and society committee training: equality & diversity, union council rep, and general committee trainining (throughout the year) - these will be in the SU and you can book onto a training session here.

We're also trialling some specialist training this year, such as specific training sessions for committees of academic societies to get the most out of partnership with their school, so look out for these too!.

committee handover

Societies: all new society committees need to have a handover meeting in order to fill out their handover document and prepare the new committee for the coming year. We strongly recommend booking onto a handover sessions as these will all have staff on hand to help facilitate the handover process.

Clubs: each club committee will have a development meeting with their UEA Sport coordinator (details on how to book your session have been emailed out). These club development meetings will last around two hours: the first half is a debrief with both incoming and outgoing committees, the second half will just be the new committee setting aims and objectives for the coming year with their coordinator.

Please remember to return your completed new committee details spreadsheet to [email protected] by 20th May.

exec elections

Nominations to be on next year's sports and societies execs are now OPEN and close at 10am on Monday 20th May. Voting will then immediately open and close on Friday 24th May at 10am.

To find out more about what execs do and who they are this year, head to uea.su/execs.

looking back

Having listened to many student's feedback during last year's elections, many wanted improvements to the committee training and handover processes. This was one of my main priorities to act on this year, so I hope that by doing things slightly different this year, committees will get the best handover and training possible, and as always we welcome your feedback!

Your feedback is hugely important as it helps us to improve the support we give to committees every year. For this reason, I'm launching our first ever Presidents Reviews for outgoing 2018-2019 presidents of clubs and societies. These are designed to be an open forum for presidents to give honest feedback about their year; what's gone well and what hasn't gone so well. Each session will last for 90 minutes but you can drop in/out whenever you like.

Sports club president's review: 3pm Wednesday 15th May, Town Close Room, Sportspark.

Society president's review: 4pm Monday 20th May, Bookable Room 1, Union House.

You can find out more information and anonymously submit discussion points for both sessions online at uea.su/presidentsreview.

win a £20 campy k voucher

I know it's completely unrelated but I'm working with UEA Sport on a survey about wellbeing in sport. We've put together a survey and I'd be really grateful if you could spare a few minutes to tell us your thoughts around wellbeing and sport at UEA - respondents can enter into a prize draw to be in with the chance of a £20 campus kitchen voucher! (that's 5 burritos or 5 breakfasts or 8 slices of pizza or just 20 boxes of chips, whatever floats your boat). Click here to complete the survey, you have until the end of May!

any questions?

as always, shoot me an email on [email protected] if there's any committee stuff you need a hand with. Have a great week!
