transphobia in norwich statement

It has come to our attention that a transphobic hate group are once again active and spreading anti-trans sentiment in Norwich.

We would like to reiterate that we find this behaviour completely unacceptable, and this group’s message is completely contrary to our beliefs. Trans people are welcome on our campus and in Norwich; the outpouring of support for the trans community that followed this group’s last period of activity only goes to show that they are the minority, and their views are not representative of Norwich or UEA.

We have a zero tolerance approach to transphobic language and behaviours under our Never OK campaign, which is supported by UEA, and makes clear our commitment to tackle abuse, hate, harassment and violence. If you witness transphobia on campus, please report it via the Never OK reporting tool: https://portal.uea.ac.uk/neverok.

If you feel affected by the issues raised here please do contact the Student Support Service to arrange an appointment, you can find more details here: https://portal.uea.ac.uk/student-support-service.
