These events are hosted by the Ethnic Minorities Officer, Tarun Sridhar, with the amazing support of uea|su volunteers and societies.

Black history month is organized by students of African, Asian, Arab, Caribbean, and Latin American descent (here referred to as “Black”) for all UEA students. Black is understood in its political sense, hence Black history month celebrates the history, heritage, culture, and achievements of the ‘Politically Black’ to fight against discrimination.

Black History Month is celebrated every October in the UK to:

  • Promote knowledge of Black history, culture, and heritage.
  • Promote important information about Black contributions to society.
  • Raise awareness and create confidence in Black people of their cultural heritage.

Note: the BME Caucus is taking place in Black History Month, but the date is still to be arranged.
