Marketing for societies

We’ve created a series of 1 hour long workshops that are designed specifically to help societies in the areas of marketing, social media, blogs and website and branding. Run over the course of a week (20th – 24th May between 11am – 12pm) – these digestible sessions will provide you with all the building blocks you need to ensure your society sends out the right message to its current and future members, promotes its events and activities in the most effective way and gets you thinking about how you can improve the image you are putting out to students on campus.
Marketing - 20.05.2019, 11am - 12pm, Room 1, Union House
We’d all expect a legitimate business to have decent marketing in order to attract customers would you? In fact, you’d probably dismiss an organisation or brand based on how attractive, effective and eye catching their marketing is. So why would a society be any different? Societies need to attract members, just like a business needs to attract customers, so in this beginner’s guide to marketing, we’ll discuss how your society can successfully market itself to students on campus and even external companies and the wider community. We’ll explain why marketing is so important and how it can make a huge difference to your societies image and how it can affect how many members you gain.
This session will also touch on how to promote your events, keep your members engaged and tackle the best ways in which to communication with your membership and potential future membership.

So you think you know social media? We guarantee that you’ll learn a lot from this session, especially tips and ideas on how to engage your membership depending what platform your society uses. Is your Facebook page as interesting and relevant as it could be? Are you using Instagram? Are you posting content that people really want to see? Join in with this session, and we’ll give you the building blocks to create social media brilliant content that really works for your society.
Branding and re-branding - 23.05.2019, 11am - 12pm, Room 1, Union House
The perfect session if you want to know how to create a really eye catching brand for your society. Delivered in easy bite sized chunks of information, we’ll start with the basics, what is a brand, why does my society need one, logos and fonts and a whole bunch of resources to take away with you. If you already have a brand for your society, but it’s a bit outdated, this session will cover how to go about re-branding and how to do this successfully.
Blogs and websites - 24.05.2019, 11am - 12pm, Room 5, Union House
What is a blog, why should your society bother with one and how to get started writing content for one? We’ll cover all this and more in this introduction to blogs and website and why they are an important tool for your society. We’ll encourage you to have a go at writing your own blog post and offer step by step advice on how to set up a blog, plus, we’ll cover how to create a successful blog that people want to read once it’s all been set up.
