phdiggers allotment project
Wednesday 17 July 2019, 2:30pm - 5pm
uea allotments (meet in union house @ 14:30)
PhDiggers is a gardening group for postgraduate research students at the University of East Anglia, set up by the uea(su) Courage Project. We hope that, through access to gardening and green spaces, postgraduate students will be able to alleviate some of the stress, anxiety, and sense of isolation often involved in PhD research.
The PhDiggers' first project took place in May 2019, in which they teamed up with UEA Estates to rejuvenate the Earlham Hall Dutch Gardens on the edge of campus. This project was incredibly well-received, so we are really excited to be able to share the PhDiggers next project with you. The Courage Project has gained access to five UEA allotments, and will be running regular PhDiggers sessions for postgraduate students to come together and bond over mutual interests, collaboratively tend to a natural space, and grow produce.
No prior knowledge of gardening, allotment management, or plant growing is necessary. Just bring comfy clothes (suitable for getting muddy), good shoes (the tools are sharp!), and a positive attitude. :) Sign up by clicking the ticket link above. Spaces are limited! We'll be meeting in Union House before carrying the tools over to the allotments. The session will be roughly two hours long, but no worries if you can't attend for the whole thing! Also, if you can't show up until a bit later on, just meet us at the site!
PhDiggers who attend will get a free PhDiggers mug and/or t-shirt (we have a limited supply) to celebrate your participation in this awesome project!
We hope to see you there!
(IMPORTANT: Currently the space is described as not wheelchair-friendly due to the overgrowth in the area. Once this is cleared, we anticipate that future PhDiggers allotment sessions will be accessible for wheelchair-users. We are sorry for the inconvenience - future event pages will include information on the accessibility of the area so that attendees can plan accordingly.)
