phdiggers - introduction to allotmenting
Monday 15 July 2019, noon - 1:30pm
uea allotments (meet in union house @ 12:00)
PhDiggers is a gardening group for postgraduate research students at the University of East Anglia, set up by the uea(su) Courage Project. We hope that, through access to gardening and green spaces, postgraduate students will be able to alleviate some of the stress, anxiety, and sense of isolation often involved in PhD research.
Want to join PhDiggers, but not sure where to start when it comes to digging, planting, weeding, and all the other typical allotment-related verbs? Worry no longer! Courage Project lead Bryony Porter is here to help! While all PhDiggers sessions are very welcoming of newbies, this session has been set up specifically with them in mind! We'll spend an hour or so covering the basics and introducing you to the kind of stuff you can expect if you become a PhDigger!
"What do I need to bring?" I hear you ask? Just comfy clothes (suitable for getting muddy), good shoes (the tools are sharp!), and a positive attitude. :) We'll do a brief safety talk beforehand so everyone is prepared - the briefing can be found here. Sign up by clicking the ticket link above. Spaces are limited! We'll be meeting in Union House before carrying the tools over to the allotments. The session will be roughly an hour long.
New PhDiggers who attend will get a free PhDiggers mug and/or t-shirt (we have a limited supply) to celebrate your participation in this awesome project!
We hope to see you there!
(IMPORTANT: Currently the space is described as not wheelchair-friendly due to the overgrowth in the area. Once this is cleared, we anticipate that future PhDiggers allotment sessions will be accessible for wheelchair-users. We are sorry for the inconvenience - future event pages will include information on the accessibility of the area so that attendees can plan accordingly.)
