We are UEA Ice: home of ice hockey team UEA Avalanche, ice skating, and figure skating

If you are interested in Ice Hockey, Figure Skating or just standard Ice Skating, then we are the club for you!

Whether you want to casually skate for fun, practice your slapshot, or polish your double axel, we can help you. We are a development club for figure skaters and hockey players alike. We take part in National competitions for ice hockey and the BUIHA League, as well as challenge/friendly games. We also take part in figure skating competitions.

We cater to beginners who have never skated before all the way up to advanced skaters. If you enjoy being a part of a close community of people that enjoy socialising and skating together, please give us a visit at the Sports Fayre, or get in touch with any of our committee. We love answering questions about skating, so ask away! No equipment or previous experience is required.

Come visit us and have some fun!

UEA Avalanche:

UEA Avalanche is the one and only ice hockey team at UEA! A mixed, all ages and abilities team made of staff, students and alumni, we play non-checking games in the British University Ice Hockey Association, and are currently part of BUIHA Division 2 South league tournament after being promoted in 2019 from Division 3. The team takes on skaters of every ability and there is a space for everyone - no tryouts required! In additition to league games, the team also takes part in friendly games with other BUIHA and rec teams and at the end of the year, have their own 'All Star' game featuring alumni members and team VIPs. While league games are an essential part of the year for the team, the most eagerly anticipated games are those at Nationals which take place in Sheffield during the April break. The team also has a dedicated development squad that play their own games throughout the year. Known affectionately as the 'aBs', UEA Avalanche B team made their debut in 2019 at the BUIHA National Tournament in Tier VI.

Anyone wishing to join the team is welcome to contact us. Brand new players/skaters are advised to take part in rec skates and off ice trainings before taking part in 'on ice' training.

Team training times:
"On Ice" training - 22:15-00:15, alternate Fridays at Planet Ice Peterborough. Transport available for members at UEA, meeting/dropped off at the Hive at 19:30-03:00. £20 per session, including transport.
"Off Ice" training - 21:15-22:15, alternate Thursdays at UEA Sportspark. Free for all members.
Sign ups for these events (as well as kit and transport requests) can be found on the UEA Ice Facebook page.

A limited amount of club kit, sticks and skates are available for use. Please contact our equipment manager if you require kit for sessions.
For anyone wishing to join the team and play games, BUIHA Registration must be bought first. Please contact our secretary for this. If you already have EIHA or a similar hockey insurance, you will still need BUIHA. Again, contact our secretary for more details/information.

UEA Ice:

Whether you're a figure skater extraordinaire or bambi on ice, the one thing all of our members share is a love for skating. All of our members (hockey players, figure skaters and casual skaters) take part in public skating sessions together, where new skaters and experienced skaters join together for a wonderful session.

Session timings:
Public skate - 18:30-20:30, Mondays at Planet Ice Peterborough. Transport available for members at UEA, meeting/dropped off at the Hive at 17:00-23:30. £10 per session, including transport.
Sign up for this event can be found on the UEA Ice Facebook page, along with transport and skate requests if needed.

There are a limited number of hockey and figure skates available for use in these sessions. Please contact us prior to a session to organise use of our equipment and request on the individual event.

Get Involved:

There's so much more to our wonderful club than hockey and skating. There are organised socials throughout the year both on and off campus, including Sports Night socials, rollerskating and even movie nights! Join a fantastic club with a wonderful open and friendly atmosphere.
