Fun, friendly and adventurous!
About the club:
We are the university kayak club that caters for all abilities, whether you like to paddle flat water, white water or have never picked up a paddle before! We run regular sessions, socials and trips throughout the year. We welcome members at all points during the year, it is never too late to join!
Our lovely Equality and Diversity Rep, Erin, has put together a fabulous video highlighting the clubs white water trips and the more adrenaline pumping trips that our alumni have gone on to take over the last few years! Check it out below!
If white water doen't look like your thing, then don't worry, as we are based in Norfolk one of the UK's flattest counties, the club trains on flatwater and goes on many flatwater trips to the peaceful flatwater rivers closer to home! Continue below to find out more details about the club, our trips, social and session times.
When? We run sessions twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays during term-time 1-4 pm.
Where? We all meet at the water sports shed, which can be found at Suffolk Terrace Block C (red dot in map above) at 1pm, then head down to the River Yare on campus. What? At the sessions we work on building up your kayaking skills, going for a leisurely paddle along the river and playing some raft games.
Also, after kayaking come and join us at the SU bar after the session!
We hope you're excited to get kayaking and we can't wait to meet you all!
Trips run to rivers, whitewater centres and pools throughout the year. This year we have planned some really enjoyable trips!
Semester 1 trips:
- Flat Water Trip: 19th October - This trip is a great introduction to the club, Kayaking and to Norfolk. We are going to Horstead Mill to do a flat water paddle up river, then on the way back hit the wier if we fancy it. Then we will dry off and chill out in the White Horse Pub for a late lunch.
- Day Trip to Nene White Water centre: 3rd November - Day trip to the Nene to practice white water skills ahead of our weekend white water trip.
- Beginner White Water Trip: 22nd - 24th November - A great introduction to white water, we will be heading to the Brecon Beacons in Wales to paddle some of the rivers there. Even if you haven't paddled white water before this will be a great introductory trip for you.
- Pool sessions - Saturday 12th October 5.15-7:15pm , Sunday 17th November 2-4 pm (instead of usual session) and Saturday 30th November 3-5pm - A great place to practice skills in warm water. Transport will be arranged by the club where possible. Allow 30 mins either side of pool times for the journey and changing into swimming stuff.
We have planned loads of great socials this year, for drinkers and non-drinkers alike! Socials are a great place to get to know everyone better, so come along even if you're not a regular paddler!
First welcome social: 10th October - We will start by meeting on campus and getting the bus into town to go bowling, followed by a night out of you fancy it!
