Welcome to the UEA Climbing Club, one of the biggest clubs on campus!
Climbing is the perfect club to join if you want to challenge yourself, make a great bunch of friends and try a new sport! The Climbing Club is open to all abilities and levels and many people who join the club have never climbed before. We are also committed to making sure that all members are trained to the highest safety standards.
We host 4 sessions a week which are included in your club membership fee. You will need to book in for these sessions as we have to control the numbers currently. These sessions are only open to club members who have completed their training and sports park induction.
Session times
Monday at 2:30-4:30pm
Wednesday at 2:30-4:30pm
Friday at 7:30-10pm
Sunday at 2:30-4:30pm
To book a slot at the Sports park climbing sessions you will need to purchase a ticket, these do not cost anything but enable us to ensure we have the correct number of individuals at the wall. Please make sure if you have booked a ticket for a session and then cannot attend that you email the club so it can your place be filled by someone else. We will not be able to let you attend the session if you have not purchased a ticket due to the need to socially distance within the Sports Park climbing wall.
We also run a weekly trip to Highball Climbing Centre in Norwich, which has incredible bouldering and sport climbing facilities, including the massive DMM competition wall, access to auto-belay, 40 degree training board and a fully kitted gym.- UPDATE unfortunately at this time we are unable to run Highball Wednesdays, we will update our webpage and email you when we have furhter information.
What do we provide?
We provide harnesses for all sessions as well as safety training so it doesn't matter if you don't own any kit. We also provide all kit for trips throughout the year. We are currently unable to provide climbing shoes due to health and safety but a pair of trainers or your own climbing shoes if you own them is fine.

Trips:
We run a range of trips throughout the year suiting all ability ranges. From beginner to advanced as well as our yearly trip to Portland in Dorset and an abroad trip in July where we have previously been to Switzerland, France and Germany.
Please note that trips this year will be subject to the COVID-19 situation and advice given by both the BMC and the Government.

Socials:
When we’re not Climbing, we love socialising and we have a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials throughout the year so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. In the past, we have been on bar crawls, slacklined, had BBQs, gone trampolining, done film screenings, formal socials and much much more!

Completing your training:
Once you have paid your SAM and club member-ship fee you will need to sign up for a training session by purchasing a ticket (they are listed as climbing training session). When you have been trained you will then book an assessment through the Sports park reception desk to make sure that you are capable of using the climbing wall safely. This assessment will cost you only £5 and is required by the Sports park and lasts for 12 months. Please do not book yourself onto the regular climbing sessions until you have passed your assessment.
