We are a society committed to decolonising the academy. We want to examine what and how we, as students, are being taught within a colonial framework. We want to seek out ways that UEA is (consciously and unconsciously) reproducing structural colonialism and racism, and to challenge those structures with the aim of bringing about long-lasting, embedded changes. We acknowledge the ways that race, class, gender, sexuality and ability intersect to reinforce systemic prejudice. We believe in promoting an inclusive teaching and learning environment at UEA, diversity of knowledge and plurality of stories.
