volunteers needed for norwich testing initiative

UPDATE 24/07/2020:

Registration for participation in the trial has closed, but volunteer stewards are still needed! Find out more and complete this form if you're interested.

Hi everyone, I’m Em, your new Welfare, Community, and Diversity Officer. I have a variety of goals for the coming year, which I hope will make you feel better supported and represented during your time at UEA. I’ll write a blog post to run through those goals and introduce myself properly in the coming weeks, but today I am inviting you to participate in a COVID-19 mass testing trial taking place at Norwich Research Park.

This two-week trial starting on 27th July aims to test a Norwich-wide SARS-CoV-2 screening programme. It has the potential to improve the chances of a safe exit from lockdown in the UK, and to better prepare us in the event of a second wave of COVID-19. Participating in this trial is a great opportunity to support the Norwich community in the face of the pandemic.

All that is required is that you complete two COVID-19 swab tests per week across a two-week period, and drop your samples off on campus at a pre-booked time and location. You must be staying on campus or in Norwich and have easy access to UEA campus in order to participate.

Registration for the trial closes on Sunday 19th July. Please see the Norwich Testing Iniative website for further information and a guide to the process, and click here to register.

If you’ve got time to spare in the coming weeks, and want to get more involved, the project team also need volunteer Testing Project Stewards to supervise the collection and drop-off sites and to assemble test kits. Please complete this form to express your interest.

Student involvement in this trial is imperative because the project requires representation from all demographics across Norwich, so please do register if you’re in the area, and remember to book your collection and drop-off slots!

Look after yourselves and one another in this difficult time, and remember you can contact me at [email protected] or on my new Officer Facebook page.

Em
