History soc field trip: Caistor Roman Town

Wednesday 06 October 2021, 2pm - 4pm

Outside Congregation Hall

A field trip to a local historical site, transport provided, and a guided tour by experts from a community archaeology group.

A great opportunity to learn more about Norfolk’s past, this field trip will provide transport to and from, and a guided tour of, the Roman Town of Venta Icenorum, about 10 minutes outside of Norwich.

Venta Icenorum (Marketplace of the Iceni) was one of the regional capitals of Roman Britain, and was never subsequently built over, leaving an exceptional archaeological site. You can learn more about the town at the Norfolk Archaeological Trust’s website.

The tour will be run by volunteers from Caistor Roman Project, a local community archaeology group who have been investigating and excavating this site for over a decade, and will provide insights into the history of both the town and the first hand experiences of those who excavated and explored the area’s history.

This trip is a great opportunity to get out of the city, meet some new people, and learn about the local area!
