Pop-up revision space

As you may well know, exam period begins on 22 May. As students flock to the Library at this crucial time, it’s getting more and more difficult to find adequate study space on campus. And with the University planning on welcoming 1,000 new students next year, the cramped conditions are only set to get worse unless we make a permanent improvement!

After working with the University this year, they’ve agreed to renovate floors 01 and 02 of the Library over the summer period. Work is set to begin on 19 June, and will create up to 200 new study spaces for next year, with the view of a bigger expansion taking place in the future.

But what about now? Well, I’m happy to announce that the University have agreed to secure some extra pop-up revision space for students throughout the exam period. From 22 May to 16 June, you’ll be able to head to Arts 01 (the bottom floor) as an alternative to the Library. There will be both silent study and group study spaces available, as well as kitchen facilities and a chill-out zone for those moments when you need a break from studying.

We’ll also be gathering your feedback on the space, so you can let us know what you like about the facilities and how we can improve them to make them even better. Your health and wellbeing during this stressful period is of utmost importance to us, and I want to make sure that we have adequate space for all the students who need it.

The Scholars’ area is also open for all postgraduate students throughout this period. Maddie has been working hard this year to ensure the space remains available for those who need it, so we’d ask that any undergraduates give them priority and use alternative spaces on campus.

Don’t forget, there are also numerous other open spaces where you can work, such as the Hive and ITCS. Hubs will also be open for quiet study, and if you pop down to JSC or EFry, you can often find some space there too! You can always have a look at the current PC availability here if you’re not sure where to go: http://api.uea.ac.uk/pcavailability/norwich/html

Finally, I understand that many students still have exams after 16 June, so I am also looking to open up study spaces during the library’s refurbishment. More information on this as it develops.

I want to hear your ideas! If you have any comments on how you think we can improve study spaces for you, drop me an email at t.antoniou-phillips@uea.ac.uk.
