Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)

Global entrepreneurship week takes place during the 12th - 18th November 2018. Here at the Students Union, we will be offering a range of exciting and engaging workshops for you to try out.

Global entrepreneurship week is not just for people who are interested in exploring the world of self employment as a career option. We want to encourage you to learn new skills and try out new activities through our programme of interesting workshops.

Put on your own event

If you are a society and you'd like to get involved in Global entrepreneurship week then we'd love to hear from you. Whether you want to help others to set up their own student led Zines, encourage others to get involved in your social enterprise project, teach people to DJ or show other how to make fantasic cakes and bakes, we want to hear from you! We are looking for students to run fun sessions that teach students new skills. You can get up to £40 to help towards the running costs of your session, so click here to find out more and how to apply.

Learn from your peers

Through our Do Somethign Different Programme, Socities will be organising a whole range of student led activties for you to try during GEW. You don't have to be into business to get involved in these sessions though. We have an interesting a varied programme of stuff for you to get involved in, all aimed at helping you learn new skills, try out news things and help transform yourself during your time at University.

Alongside our student led workshops, we've also bought in a few external companies and Alumni who will be running a range of sessions around entrepreneurship. Makers Market 12.11.2018 11am-3pm The Hive This monthly markers market is perfect for students who are just starting out on their entreprenurial journey. Whether you've a product to sell or a service to promote, come along and generate money, showcase your wares and test out your business skills.
“How to Improve Your Entrepreneurial Wellbeing [as a student entrepreneur]”  12.11.2018 1pm - 2pm Bookable room 6, Union House Jennifer did her Masters at UEA in 2014/15 where she received a Distinction in MSc Marketing, she was also the president of the UEA Entrepreneurs Society and UEA Fashion Society. Jennifer went on to work at Uber in Marketing and Partnership alongside running her blogs and then started a PhD in London (Loughborough University London) which she is currently researching Entrepreneurship and Wellbeing in the Digital Economy. She’s also launching a few businesses including ‘hairgoals’ which started with help from UEA’s enterprise department! She has a deep passion for wellbeing and helping others and will be coming back to UEA to run a workshop on ‘How To Improve Your Entrepreneurial Wellbeing’. As Jennifer started her business as a student, she’ll also be able to give tips specific for and catered to student entrepreneurs!

Pop in and chat to UEA SU's Enterprise Advisor who will be on hand to advise you on the funding options available to help get your idea off the ground.
Lets talk money: Funding options for your social enterprise 13.11.2018 2pm - 3pm Bookable room 5, Union House So you've got an idea to make the world a better place but need cash to kick start your social enterprise venture? Pop in and chat to UEA SU's Enterprise Advisor who will be on hand to advise you on the funding options available to help get your idea off the ground.
How to plan an event like a boss 13.11.2018 3pm - 4pm Bookable room 1, Union House If you are interested in event management then this session is for you. UEA SU’s experienced events coordinator will show you practical ways to run a successful event or project from the planning stages to delivery. 
The Branding Factory 15.11.2018 3pm - 5pm Bookable room 6, Union House This fun and interactive workshop will help budding entrepreneurs take their business idea and turn it into a well-polished brand. Students will learn about the importance of good visual identity, learn basic design skills and discover how to stand out from the rest of the competition. Take home material will be available including useful resources and tips on where to get business advice.

Rachel, co-founder and producer at SubMotion will talk about the different job roles within the media industry and also the array of different types of media content, from branded advertising to narrative film that is being produced worldwide. This workshop will cover the impact social media has had on video content and how to make your video stand out. You'll get to create your own short video to help promote your product or project.
